Blue Ash Database

Post by Matt Markworth » Wed Jan 06, 2016 10:25 pm

NTS,

I have started a spreadsheet focused solely on the interesting blue ash: http://www.ents-bbs.org/blog.php?u=815

Included are my own measurements, along with measurements that have been posted by other ents. The list currently stands at 34 trees. I'll be able to measure quite a few more open-grown blue ashes in the Bluegrass Region of KY and I also know of some forest-grown blue ashes on south-facing slopes above the Ohio River.

Fortunately Emerald Ash Borer doesn't appear to currently target this species like white ash and green ash, although I know some trees have been treated as a precaution.

Please let me know if you have additional blue ashes for the list. Here are the columns:

Form (Forest-grown or Open-grown)
CBH (ft)
Height (ft)
Average Spread (ft)
State
Site
Date
Measurer(s)
Notes
Reference (Link to the original report)

Here are the largest girths on the list. All of these trees are open-grown trees in the Bluegrass Region of KY. By and large they are very old trees and almost all have lost their tops. A CBH of 13' or more represents what I consider to be a large open-grown blue ash.
