This is an eastern Massachusetts white pine that I visited recently. It's not particularly outstanding in height or CBH but it is a gem in its piece of woods.

Andrew,

It has a curious brushy top. Very pretty.

It's on high ground exposed to south west, west and northwest wind, it's had its top broken many times. Its "back" is sheltered by a ridge from wind from the east and pine and hemlock on either side protect it from direct north or south wind. It's feet are in good soil and at the base of a slope, the tree is thriving but will always be subject to regular weather "pruning".

These pictures are beautiful...and funny aside: when I saw the post and opened it I thought it said "White Wine Portrait".

Andrew,

Your posts are always fresh and we often get to see images from aloft. Sooper Dooper. Did you know that the pines, larger or small, whisper their messages to attuned ears? Ah, I think I just heard some of them out here in the land of the great whites whispering Andrew, Andrew, where are you? We miss you. Come climb us and hear the songs of our needles. Drop the tape from our highest bough to the ground far below and sing our praises in number so that Ents far and wide will come and honor us. ...........  Wow! Now, that was some message. And. it has nothing to do with the strength of the coffee I'm drinking this damp morning.

On Friday, Tim and I are meeting at the Charlemont Inn for a traditional breakfast and then going to visit the Oneida Pine - last 150 that I haven't remeasured. Come join us.

I definitely hear the pines whispering in my ear! A great invite, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be on Friday morning. Unfortunately I'm pinned down for the day.

Andrew,

Shucks! Well, we'll just have to set up another rendezvous in the pines. I'm hoping that despite my belief that with the Oneida Pine, I will have covered all the bases in locating 150s, but Mohawk keeps springing surprises. Who knows maybe another in the Oneida Group has joined the 150 Club.

The Great Joesph Brant Pine which is above the Oneida Pine is sending whispers on the white pine grapevine.......

Aaandrewww, Anndrewww, can you hear me Andrew? Come climb me. I want to share an inspiring view  with you from my lofty boughs. I'm highest on the ridge.

Well, Andrew, the 134-footer just passed the message to me from the great Brant Pine. Go to a pine close to you, put your ear to the trunk and listen. I'll bet you get the message too.
