i-Tree Carbon Calculator

Post by dbhguru » Thu Jun 04, 2020 9:41 am

Ents,

A product that is available to the public for calculating the benefit of a tree in terms of energy offset, stormwater, carbon dioxide offset, etc. is design.itreetools.org. The tool is easy to use and deep in features. The amount of development behind it is mind-boggling. How good is it? The jury is out, but the attachment offers us a window into its reliability when applied to a particular tree. You can judge for yourself.

I have long suspected that these advanced statistical models incorporate a bucket full of compromises. The analysis of the Grandfather Pine in Monroe SF adds to my suspicions.

Ents,

Attached is an Excel workbook for the modeling of a neighbor's white pine with comparisons to i-Tree in this first worksheet.
