With Spectacular Stick Sculptures by Patrick Dougherty, Art and Nature Collide

http://www.treehugger.com/galleries/2010/08/with-spectacular-stick-sculptures-by-patrick-dougherty-art-and-nature-collide.php

Sculptor Patrick Dougherty's vibrant, nest-like works are shaped from sustainably harvested tree twigs and saplings -- sometimes thousands of tons worth -- and woven together with the help of volunteers, but without any nails, wire, or other hardware.

Relying only on the materials' own natural propensity to entangle and intertwine, Dougherty creates what the San Francisco Arts Commission calls "a joyful and exuberant collision of art and nature."

.
"I love science and it pains me to think that so many are terrified of the subject or feel that choosing science means you cannot also choose compassion, or the arts, or be awe by nature. Science is not meant to cure us of mystery, but to reinvent and revigorate it." by Robert M. Sapolsky
