Re: Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill
ENTS,
My wife and I leave for Panama City Beach FL tomorrow. Pensacola is only 80 or so miles to the west. I look forward to the vacation but I am apprehensive about the oil spill. We have been hoping that the oil stays away long enough to enjoy the vacation plus a refund is not possible unless the beaches are closed. So far oil at Panama City Beach has been very minimal.
The whole damn thing is rediculous. No plan in case something happens so when it did look what happened. It really sucks.

Wait until we get a hurricane or tropical storm! If and when this oil slick rounds Florida and catchs the gulf stream I would not be surprised that we would see tar balls up on the Cape.

Larry,
So far here at Panama City Beach it looks pretty good. I have seen so sign of oil. I talked to one fellow on the beach a little while ago and he said a few small tar balls were found here last night. The ocean is beautiful and the beach is busy. The only thing prettier than trees are young bikini-clad women!

Re: Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill
ENTS, These photos are 1 mile west of Biloxi lighthouse taken at about 2:oo PM, yesterday. The Oil sheen in the one photo was 100 x 300 yards. The oil blobs were under the sheen hitting the beaches in several places. The largest blob was about 12 inches square with many smaller ones! I also saw sheen south of Biloxi Bridge and along several areas from Biloxi to Gulfport. We just had a strong thunderstorm that pushed much water on the beach. I'm heading back down right now and will update this later.
4:00 PM the oil globs are along an area from 1/2 mile west of Biloxi to Rodenberg. About a mile on the beach in this region. Oil is creeping into Biloxi Bay and officials have been slow to react as usual. Alot more sheen and globs are on the way in!

Larry,
The amount of oil here at Panama City beach has so far been surprisingly small. A beach crew showed Clay and I a ziploc bag of oil coated vegitation yesterday and I found a piece of vegitation yesterday with a reddish-brown semi-slimy oily residue on it on Shell Island. But overall Panama City Beach is faring well. But I am sure in just a matter of time oil will reach here in quantity.

Larry, ENTS.
Check out this picture from Panama City Beach that I took Thursday. The surf was up due to recent storms and it looks like there is oil in the water in the surf zone, maybe mixed with a little sediment. I also noticed a more stained appearance to the beach near the water.

Re: Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill
The oily storm cloud that I fear on the horizon is the inevitability of the oil being taken out of the Gulf and into the Gulf Stream, around Florida and up the Eastern coastline...that's when the "ship hits the sand"...
