Rock Gardens
Rock Gardens
Hoping to photographically document the NYBG Rock Garden through the Spring and into Summer as the vegetation changes.
We've been doing tons of cleaning up getting it ready for opening to the public the first week-end in April.
Here's a link to some of the photos I took today. 10 days ago it was covered in snow!!!

Suburbia is where the developer bulldozes out the trees, then names the streets after them. ~Bill Vaughn

Jenny-
Very nice!!! But not fair! We've still got two foot of snow on the ground, with nighttime temps around 0 this last week...

Jenny,
What kind of purple flowers? My guess is crocus. I have always loved these. I have seen them bloom poking through the snow.

Re: Rock Gardens
James,
I did not do a good job recording the names of the flower species! The purple flowers in the close-up are not crocus, though. I will be better at making sure to put the species names in the photo captions. I sometimes give up when it comes to the rock garden flowers because there are hundreds, maybe more.
There WERE a lot of crocus though. I destroyed some when I was raking leaves and ended up hand picking leaves from around any flower. Fun stuff...
Tried to upload a pic of some crocus, but the program keeps saying the file is invalid. Grrrr.

Re: Rock Gardens
Ok, the deep purple flowers are a type of crocus and the light purple appear to be Sweet William.

P.S. Holy Cow! this Master Naturalist thing is paying off.

In the same picture as the Sweet William is another crocus, this time white.
