A couple weeks ago I had the chance to go and see some of the trees that Will Blozan and others documented a few years ago which had grown a bit. I was with the fam so I didn't have the chance to do extensive measuring but I got a few good shots and found a Tulip that the guys hadn't listed before.
Tulip Poplar 20'5"x156'x96' 425pts
Tulip Poplar 20'4"x147'x70' 409pts
Sycamore 19'4"x90'x115' 350pts
Tulip Poplar 18' x158x82' 392pts
Tulip Poplar 17'11"x127'x80' 362pts

The presence of those monsters in such an open space must be fantastic! Think you might have made a minor typo in the caption to that last picture, though- 258 feet tall would be quite the tulip!

Erik, yes 158' is the correct height. Getting my Tulips and Redwoods mixed up or something. The fact that a couple of these trees have grown so tall in an open space makes me wonder if maybe there were other trees close to them that were cut or fell.

The 156' tulip is open grown. The 158' appears to be surrounded by saplings so was this also open grown? Those heights are solid for forest grown trees but open grown? Does anyone know of taller open grown deciduous trees?

Wonder if it has something to do with the site quality. Additionally the 17'11" tulip also displays a lot of limb removal; whether natural losses or pruning could the loss of lower limbs be a stimulus towards the growth of taller and more columnar trunks which would contribute to greater height?
