Interesting. The best thing is it would help drive more research in the area.

The boundaries are going to be a bit odd though. There is a good amount of privately owned land parcels, towns, ski resorts, in that section of WV. There is also a far bit of restoration going on at Canaan Valley NWR with "restoring" Red Spruce forest.

As per their recipe, the energy and timber companies have let loose their gun-humping "sportsmen" to fight the proposed National Park. It's only in the discussion phase and already they've released the hounds. I'd laugh if it weren't so disgustingly sad.

James, NTS: Our "beloved" Senator Manchin has apparently called a halt to the NPS study for a High Allegheny National Park. It is almost impossible to get  legislation passed unless the state senators are on board. This has not received a lot of coverage in WV. Read this article at:

The energy companies hold all of the cards. This is why they should all be dismantled, their executive board members and biggest shareholders arrested, and their property and funds be nationalized.

Joe said
I believe in public lands and in making these public lands accessible for the recreation and enjoyment of our citizens, but I have also said throughout this process that West Virginia's heritage, and our cherished traditions of hunting, fishing, and trapping, must be absolutely protected and preserved

Fishing can be allowed in National Parks. As far as hunting, in that case for it to be a national preserve rather than national park. That status allows hunting.
