surviving American chestnuts

Here are some images of an old American chestnut tree I found in NC along a trail at a high elevation several years ago. Not extraordinarily large, but the character of the bark seems to indicate that this may be a pre-blight survivor. It's located in old-growth forest. I can look up the exact location if anybody's interested.
