Bob, I'm not sure off hand which GA site has the highest RHI... would have to look through some old data sheets. I know the mountainous sites that Jess has spent much time in have some taller trees, but not sure how deep the tall trees go.... sure, there's super tall white pines up there, but not sure the 8th or 10th tallest tree in N. Georgia would be that impressive at any particular site. Of course, I also have a TON of data on Atlanta sites, so in a way these sites have a bit of a leg up. I'm curious now... i'll see if I have time to dig up the best sites in Atlanta and then see what Jess and others have on other GA sites. Also, if you consider Atlanta as a "site", then the RHI10 goes up quite a bit... over 140' for sure.

The RHI10 for Atlanta (inside I-285 perimeter) is now 144.3'. That's a pretty stout number!

Eli,

I should say it is. Your average tops Northampton, MA's tallest tree.

Inter-city competition would be loads of fun, although adopting rules could be challenging. We could have competitions for inner-city properties, such as parks, and an overall city RHI.

Bob,

That's and easy question. Panther Creek is without peers in GA. Here's the most recent trip report

I guess if we were only looking at metro-areas, I think Atlanta would be at or near the top nationwide (though Memphis is up there too, right Jess?)

Eli,

I suspect Washington DC would be a competitor.

I went to the Fernbank Museum a few days ago. I was hoping the forest would be open to the public again. It wasn't and I was pissed off.

However, they told me it will reopen this summer.

My sister lives in Atlanta. She hosts the family Thanksgiving dinner, so that's the next chance I will have to see the forest. I'll go the Friday after the holiday.

I really hate driving in Atlanta traffic. Otherwise, I would go see the forest before then.
