Hurricane Michael's impact on Torreya State Park

Hi all-

Everyone remembers the devastating effects of Hurricane Michael in the Florida Panhandle in October 2018.
Torreya State Park and others in the vicinity are severely damaged. Torreya in particularly is devastated with an estimated 60-70 % + tree destruction.
I've reported on it in the past and it's heartbreaking to see it now.
Almost one year later and only a small portion of the Park Trails are open.

I plan a visit this winter. Part of me doesn't want to go but just like the
fire at Hermosa in Colorado life goes on and nature will recover.
We all have special places in our hearts minds Torreya and Hermosa are two of mine.

Oh man, that looks just like the tornado damage at Secrest arboretum, but that was just a handful of acres.

I watched that monster wind itself up on the satellite images in the last 24 hours before landfall and thought, 'Whoo-boy, this thing just went from nuisance to dangerous. I hope people are getting off the coast.'

I dunno, does Florida Torreya need disturbance to reproduce? (fungal plague nonwithstanding)

Good question Randy. I know they grow in the understory the ones I saw. Not sure if the mass blow down will be good for them.
The website site most were not affected by the storm.
