Southern Dunes

Post by dbhguru » Tue Jul 06, 2010 10:04 pm

ENTS-WNTS,

Monica and I have just returned from a visit to Great Sand Dunes NP. We can't get enough of the fabulous park. It has everything to include ancient bristlecone pines, some of the oldest dated cottonwoods in the country, 400-year old ponderosa pines, elk, antelope, mountain lions, kangaroo rats, tiger beetles, and the eternal sands. We visited the southern dunes and here are some images. I'll provide more images and a narrative tomorrow. As of now I'm pooped.

Bob-
Good use of lighting!
I like the last one best...big wind of east followed by little wind of south?

Don,

Thanks. The possibilities are endless. I've got to get a more up to date camera. I am envious of Randy's. How was your trip back to Alaska?

Bob-
Rendevouz ended all too soon! But now that we've returned to AK, our trip to Yellowknife is coming up fast.
I think next year, I'll plan on training up a little so as to not be affected so much by the altitude...Coalbank Pass took a lot of the ummph out of me! Went through air terminals in a bit of a fog...;>)
That said, the Durango Rendezvous went off smartly I thought. With more people next year, it might take more organizing, but would even be better with expanded reach to areas we haven't even hit...we've just explored PART OF the "tip of the iceberg" that is the San Juans!
Good looking dune photos, Wolf Creek Pass photos! I've been looking at upgrading camera too...
