Michael,

Congrats! What was the previous tallest-known Sitka? This discovery is amazing! I just added the tree to Monumental Trees in your name (https://www.monumentaltrees.com/en/usa/california/delnortecounty/4462_redwoodnationalpark/52922/)
Raven's Tower at ~96m after recent top breakage. It was about 97.6m in 2010
Michael, thanks for sharing

I was aware of this via Chris, but I didn't mention new Sitka's at my site because he wasn't sure how under the radar they were meant to be. Seeing you shared this with ENTS, seems okay to update a couple things outwardly.

The past couple years I was thinking chances of new record finds near Redwood National may be getting to be like 1/2 or a percent. But that sort of discovery seems to open expectations more broadly.

On another note, I'm close to going back out to measure the tall planted Sequoiadendron found by Eagle Point in 2020.

Do you have an idea when stem elongation stops on our evergreens here in the summer? Do you think tips rise higher in August, or would height gain be done by July?

Cheers,

Mario

Mario, Go ahead and post if you want. No problem. With the drought and high temps I would expect July is better than August.
