Re: Percent Cylinder Occupation
Thanks Ed.
Well it's your discovery Kouta, and besides the Park will probably make up their own name for it if they ever find it for themselves.
I now have to find a name for the 59m tree I found high up on the bank...

Re: Percent Cylinder Occupation
The park has already found the tree. Do you remember number 1?
"Bell Bottom" is ok, but "Kouta's Bell Bottom Spruce" is not. Still worse would be "Kouta's Bell Bottom" although I am not anymore as thin as 10 years ago.

Re: Percent Cylinder Occupation
Just think, in the future people could be saying they are going to "measure Kouta's Bell Bottom". The comic misunderstandings alone would be worth it.
Re: Percent Cylinder Occupation
To those readers who haven't seen the tree: There is number 1 painted on the trunk. See this photo:KoutaR wrote:The park has already found the tree. Do you remember number 1?

The big spruce next to this very biggest spruce has number 2. Apparently they have been painted for study purposes.
I have a new idea: Perhaps I could name the tree for the painted number 1. "Spruce nr. 1" is too steril. Michael the writer, you find certanly something?

Re: Biogradska Gora – two new broadleaf tree height records
As this is the champion Norway spruce in Biogradska and has a No.1 on it then why not name it after the first king of Norway: Harald Fairhair. The second king was called Eric Bloodaxe, but Harald II (great grandson of Harald I) was called Harald Greycoat.
So trees '1' and '2' could be: Harald I and Harald II, or 'Fairhair' and 'Greycoat', or 'Fairhair' and 'Bloodaxe', or 'Harald' and 'Eric'.

That's an incredible construction. But it also has meaning for English-speaking people only. Picea abies is only in English "Norway spruce". For example, in German it is "common spruce" or "red fir", in Finnish "forest spruce" or "European spruce" and in Italian "red fir".Michael J Spraggon wrote:As this is the champion Norway spruce in Biogradska and has a No.1 on it then why not name it after the first king of Norway: Harald Fairhair. I'm out of ideas for the moment then. I still like 'Bell Bottom'.

Perhaps it could be named after a mythological creature of the forest. We have mentioned the Rusalka. There is Samovila the Slavic goddess of the woods, etc.
