Getting more off-topic, but that does raise an interesting biogeography question about what controlled where Bison live. They are adaptable and were able to live in eastern deciduous forest in Appalachia, southeast pine savannas, boreal forests of western Canada, and high altitude Rocky Mnt valleys, and dry forest in eastern Oregon. Yet they couldn't live in the Central valley of California, that supported Elk, or southwestern mountains, or eastern Canadian boreal forests.
