Lewis and Clark National Historical Park commemorates the Corps of Discovery's arrival at the Pacific Ocean. In the two hundred years since then, much of the landscape has changed through human settlement. One unintended consequence has been the invasion of non-native plants, with European holly and ivy being the most aggressive. Park scientists and the community are responding strongly to these threats, which negatively impact native species, and are attempting to restore the area to how Lewis and Clark first witnessed it in 1805.

"I love science and it pains me to think that so many are terrified of the subject or feel that choosing science means you cannot also choose compassion, or the arts, or be awe by nature. Science is not meant to cure us of mystery, but to reinvent and revigorate it." by Robert M. Sapolsky
