The fascinating Luminous Mushroom

The light is created by a chemical reaction. A substance called luciferin.
Fireflies, glow-worms and a number of marine organisms, such as fish, use bioluminescence to attract prey or mates. The function in fungi is unknown. It has been suggested that it attracts insects which then disperse the spores. It is also possible that the production of light is incidental - although this is unlikely since it is an energy-expensive process.

Widespread in the forests of Sabah, Malaysia.
