Bob,

As a spin-off of the "Trigonometry Game" thread, I have started this new thread to discuss practical applications of the Law of Cosines. My first thought is that it is nice to have a formula that doesn't require a right triangle.

  There are practical applications that call for determining an angle of a plane triangle when the sides are known. Let's first see the solution.
