Functional Circumference

Post by dbhguru » Fri Aug 28, 2020 6:22 pm

ENTS,

Don Bertolette and I are updating the American Forests Champion Tree Measuring Guidelines Handbook. A new topic is functional circumference. Please see the attachment for four cases where functional circumference is called for and their solutions and a calculator for each.

NTS members are invited to weigh in on the process. In the past, through Don and myself, NTS members played prominently in crafting the current measuring guidelines. However, that role has trailed off. We hope those who have been active in the past will take advantage of this opportunity.

Ents,

Just to keep this of you who are interested in our progress on functional circumference, the latest version is attached. Don and I would love to hear from any of you with thoughts on the methodology. We're not set on our present direction, although we're pretty satisfied with where we are now.
