9th Annual Tree Climbers Rendezvous

We are so excited to finally announce the details
of this Unique Rendezvous!! We guarantee this will be one of your most pleasurable
and unforgettable experiences of the year! We honor each and every one and look
forward to meeting you and connecting in the trees!

WHEN:
Oct 14th -Oct 18th
Rendezvous registration as early as 9:00 am to 12:00 pm check out time Monday Oct
18th by 11:00 am.
Additional classes before and after (see below)
WHERE:
It will be held at the beautiful Beechridge Conference Center! One hundred and forty
acres of woods and meadows in Northern Kentucky all to ourselves!
It starts with an exuberant greeting from the large White Oaks at the gate! To the left,
the majestic Sycamores call in the distance. Across the 10-acre lake are the mystical
Beech trees, hidden in the woods, offering more secluded climbs! The lake is
breathtaking and is available for fishing, kayaking and boating.
The conference facility is a 19th century stone farmhouse, with room for full
workshops. It also offers comfortable dormitory style lodging. Dorm rooms are limited to
24. So first come first serve. Overnight accommodations at Beechridge are not
handicapped accessible.
Unlimited tenting and camping is available by the lake with two choices. You can either
set up under a grove of magnificent sycamores or on the mossy ridge overlooking the
lake.
In addition we blocked discounted rooms at nearby hotels for those wanting more
privacy. (See below) The Country Inn Suites and Comfort Inn are listed below.
Beechridge walks are a joy on pathways where wildlife abounds. Birds and waterfowl are
abundant, as are deer, wild turkey and many species of small game. Acres of lawn will
have you seeking a shady spot for a late afternoon nap.
Best of all, Beechridge is easily accessible. Only 25 minutes from the Greater Cincinnati
Airport.

WHAT:
The following workshops are free to all registrants except material fee to splicing class
of $10.00. This list is incomplete and will be added to monthly.
“Demystifying rope slicing” & “The double braid splice” –Nick Araya
Nick is owner of Splices by Nick. He started tree climbing in 2000 learning from
treeclimbing.com forum! Became a tree worker, then certified arborist. He trained to
become a Facilitator for rec climbs. Strong in outdoor education and has taught his
splicing classes all over the US!
“SRT hands 2 hour workshop” – Joe & Bill Maher
“History of Recreational Tree Climbing” – Peter Jenkins
“Adventure & Research in the Panama” – Joe & Bill Maher
“Stresses and Tensions, and Trees, Oh My” – Pat Wisniewski
How trees grow?? Is this one safe to climb? Participants will understand how trees
develop tension to oppose the stresses inherent in their structure and dhow that
knowledge may be used to assess the safety of a potential climbing tree.
Pat is a RN, BSN, CHPN, ISA PA/DE (retired arborist) He has mentored beginning and
seasoned arborists in basic and advanced tree climbing skills, pruning techniques, cabling
and bracing, lightning protection installation, basic tree biology, hazard tree assessment,
and the joy of climbing.
“Round table discussion of Climbing Techniques”- led by Pat Wisniewski
Bring your favorite climbing equipment & techniques to describe & share- Participants
will be able to listen to first-hand accounts of how climbers use numerous different
devises, climbing techniques, methods of entering, moving about in, and exiting trees.
"The Tricks, Tips and Templates of Rope Work" Jim Krumpelman Evening
Campfire time.
Jim is also a certified speaker through Toastmasters and is an excellent presenter, well
organized, compact and efficient!
“The More you Live, The Less You Die”- Pat Wisniewski
Discussions on death, dying, bereavement, & loss. Participants will have the ability to tell
their stories, ask questions, and explore ideas surrounding loss and bereavement issues.
Pat as a RN hold certificates in diabetic education, trauma care nurse, hospice and
palliative care.
“The Stan & Dan Show” Our special two man force will lead festivities Sat night! It is a
surprise!! Stan & Dan are more than qualified having over 50 year experience in partying
and the master of elite socializing!
“Photos Old & New” Desi Mora
“Entering Tree Time” By Tim Kovar
“YOGA & NIA classes” Shelly Byrne, Sarah Lytle and Gwen Steffen

Basic DRT class –
• offered by Tree Climbing USA Abe Winters & Tree Climbing Colorado

• Prerequisite: None
• Objectives: This class covers double rope technique, accessing the canopy,
movement within, decending to the ground, equipment and equipment care, basic
tree selection and care, safety issues, shout calls and opportunities for future
climbs with others in Tree Climbing USA
October 12th all day
DRT single-pitch rescue course-
• Tree Climbers International Peter Jenkins-lead instructor with other senior
and advanced climbers with extensive recreational climbing and teaching
experience (both SRT and DRT).
• Prerequisites: BTCC or equivalent or instructor permission
• Objectives: The student will learn how to get a climber out of the tree safely
when that climber has enough rope to be brought to the ground. Students will
learn how to assess a rescue situation and the victim; the difference between
ground and aerial, critical and non-critical rescues; and how to manage an
emergency situation when other climbers and/or non-climbers are in the area.
Oct 13th all day.
DRT mulit-pitch rescue workshop-
• Tree Climbers International. Peter Jenkins lead instructor.
• Prerequisites: BTCC or equivalent, or instructor permission. DRT Single-pitch
Rescue workshop above or Facilitator Course.
• Objectives: The student will learn how to get a climber out of the tree safely
when that climber is above the point at which s/he has enough rope to be brought
to the ground.
Oct 18th-20th
Single Rope Technique (SRT) for DRT Tree Climbers
• Tree climbing Northwest Tim Kovar
• Prerequiste: Basic Tree Climbing Course or instructor approval
• Objective: This is an advanced class for climbers who are proficient in DRT tree
climbing or equivalent. In this class we will focus on how to explore with the use
of mechanical devices. Several different SRT tools will be presented and
discussed in this intensive course. We will also cover motion lanyards and tre-totree
transverse. Other topics include:
• SRT anchor
• Ground anchor
• Aerial anchor choke
• Aerial anchor pull down
• Ground Rescue
• Gear selection and maintenance
• Line placement
• Line movement
• Methods of ascending
• Methods of descending
• Self rescue
• Motion lanyard work
This SRT course is a prerequisite for the Tropical SRT Facilitators Course, which is held
annually in the Brazilian Amazon. *
FAQ:
What If I want to attend but have no climbing experience?
Great! EarthJoy will be offering Basic classes throughout the year. Email us for
availability or check our calendar page. Abe Winters of Tree Climbing USA and Harv
Tietelbaum of Tree Climbing Colorado will also be offering a Basic DRT class prior to
the Rendezvous on Oct 12th –14th.
What if I only want to come for one day?
We do offer a one-day rate of $65.00 that includes 3 meals only during the Rendezvous
dates Oct 14th-17th.
What do I bring?
Everyone must have a cambium saver! We will be climbing Sycamores and Beech trees.
You will also need to bring soft-soled shoes, helmet and your own personal climbing
gear.

• Nor firearms, fireworks or controlled/illegal substances
• Fishing requires a KY license
• Boating and swimming are at your own risk

• No laundry facilities are provided
• Septic system-no foreign material permitted
