forestry event in Mass.

Forestry consultant Mike Leonard most years puts on an event showing one of his silviculture projects. The following is his announcement. Northfield Mt. is just east of Greenfield, MA. Most of the low value wood will be chipped and sent to various biomass facilities- which is why I posted this in this section of the BBS.

Forestry field trip on Northfield Mountain for Licensed Foresters and anyone else who may be interested.

We’ll visit a recently finished forest improvement cutting on 170 acres; look at some large hemlock sawtimber that is declining from defoliation by the hemlock wooly adelgid, and check out an area designated on the Forest Stewardship Plan that will be managed for old growth as we hike all the way around the mountain.
Date: Saturday, May 21, 8 AM – Noon; event will be held rain or shine.
Meeting Place: Northfield Mountain Visitor Center, Rt.63, Erving, MA
Contact: Mike Leonard, Consulting Forester
35 Leighton Road
Petersham, MA 01366

this event has been evaluated for 4.0 credits, category I for MA forester licensing.
