Giant Legacy Oaks?
On June 4th the East Granby Ct. Land Trust will host a guided, informative hike on the Metacomet Trail. They will stop at the "giant legacy oak trees" along the trail. They say one of the trees is 300 years old. Does any members know of these trees? I plan on taking the hike and try and measure them. Sam

Sam,
I am unaware of the trees. Sounds interesting. I look forward to your report.

Re: Giant Legacy Oaks?
On June 10th I measured an oak a couple miles north on the Metacomet Trail. 14' 7" cbh and 85' high. So there could be more along here. Sam

Re: Giant Legacy Oaks?
We went on the hike today with the East Granby Land Trust to see the oaks. The first oak I measured was 12' 6" cbh @ 75'. Second oak was 13' even @ 80'. Third was 14' 2" @ 75'. Most impressive was a dead ash 16' 8" cbh at 65'. The land trust seem to think the oaks are old growth at 300 plus years old. Sam Goodwin
