The Saulsville Yellow-poplar was remeasured this spring. It came in at 173' x 187" x 106.5'. It is located near Saulsville, Wyoming County at an elevation of 2,160' with a northeast exposure. It is on private land (coal company) and survvived the last round of cutting ca. 2005
This is the second 170' class Yellow-poplar in WV with the Widen tree in Nicholas Countyr with the other one. The Widen tree was last last measured in 2012 at 173.2' x 212.4" x 88'.
The Saulsville tree is a younger tree with a full healthy full crown with no other issues and will likely ovetake the Widen tree in the near future. The Widen tree has a ragged crown with some decay at the base plus four wheeler activity around base.
