I really like that surreal shot of the fallen cherrybark oak on its side. It might be even more perplexing to the viewer if the base of the fallen tree was left at the bottom of the photo with the lady on the right seeming to defy gravity. No explanation is needed. Somethings are better left unsaid. One can create a good photo just on composition alone without a fancy camera.

Doug- Great post! I love Congaree it is like no other place in the Southeast. I visited many of the trees you have posted on back in 09 with several members of NTS. It was fantastic and something I will always remember well. It was super dry when we visited and we measured several of South Carolina's Champion Trees. Larry

Wonderful account of the trip, and excellent photographs. It was great to share Congaree with folks who really appreciate it.
