THE OLD MAN AND ME - Cook Forest Summer Vacation 1952

I came across this account of a summer vacation at Cook Forest in the early 1950s posted on Gather. (via a link on Facebook by Cook Forest Online. There are several photos from that time as well that were taken on Mr. Lartham's vacation.

I can't tell you the year for sure, but based on the photos of me and my brother and sister, I'm gonna say I was about 12 or 13, so-o-o-o... summer of '54 or 55.

I had never heard of Cook Forest in Clarion, Pennsylvania. It was (still is) a Pennsylvania State Park, replete with WPA-built log cabins (of which I made great use later in my life, when I had children) that were available only to Pennsylvania residents from Memorial Day to Labor Day. We, of course, were not eligible to use the cabins, so the Old Man borrowed a pop-up trailer.
