I came across this account of a summer vacation at Cook Forest in the early 1950s posted on Gather. (via a link on Facebook by Cook Forest Online. There are several photos from that time as well that were taken on Mr. Lartham's vacation.

.I can't tell you the year for sure, but based on the photos of me and my brother and sister, I'm gonna say I was about 12 or 13, so-o-o-o... summer of '54 or 55.
I had never heard of Cook Forest in Clarion, Pennsylvania. It was (still is) a Pennsylvania State Park, replete with WPA-built log cabins (of which I made great use later in my life, when I had children) that were available only to Pennsylvania residents from Memorial Day to Labor Day. We, of course, were not eligible to use the cabins, so the Old Man borrowed a pop-up trailer.
