Big Rock Elm (Ulmus thomasii) in Hartington

Post by wrecsvp » Sun Apr 13, 2014 10:55 pm

This is my current runner-up in size compared to the Merrickville one, just found it yesterday.
85' tall, 123.75" CBH. No evidence of any Dutch Elm Disease prevention. Pruned significantly toward utility wires 2 years ago according to owner, so is a little lopsided.

Driving home from SW Ontario yesterday, stopped by the large Rock Elms that I know about on the way. So many elms continue to die from Dutch Elm Disease, it's always a bit nerve-wracking to drive up and see how they're doing. Happy to report the Hartington tree continues to be in great health; showing a deep-green full crown in a summer of extreme drought. Still growing well at the top and adding height too

Where exactly is this? Town?
