Oak Openings Metropark (OH)

Post by Matt Markworth » Sat Jul 20, 2013 8:21 pm

Hi All,

There's nothing quite like an open grown Oak and this park doesn't disappoint. I'll have more words and photos when I can get on my laptop at home.

Black Oak
82.4' ht 13.7' CBH 110'x105' spread
75.1' ht 12.2' CBH 97'x88' spread
63.1' ht 10' CBH 82'x77' spread

White Oak
59.1' ht 11.3' CBH 87'x75' spread
12.8' CBH (A majestic white oak, just ran out of steam to get photos and full measurements)

Biggest Black Oak . . .

Matt,

What are you doing to make the photos rotate? Is it in the camera? Is it a program you are using? What?

Ed,

Darn, I was afraid of that. That happens when I upload from my IPhone. Next Time I'll try to upload a photo taken in "landscape", instead of "portrait". I also thought that I duplicated the upload and I deleted the gif, but that was probably you fixing it. You can add again or I can rotate it when I'm home.

Thanks, Matt

Matt,

Thanks I was wondering about the cause of the display problems. See if there is some sort of an auto rotate function. I wonder if it can be turned off? It is adding code to the picture telling it how to display. It is a pain to fix. Even the ones you fix at home still retain the code and I need to redo all of the rotated images as a gif to include or edit them in word for the newsletter. At least I know why this is happening now.

Ed,

The weird part is that on my IPhone, this post has both of the images above shown correctly as vertical. Here's a photo of Lake Huron taken in "landscape." Does it show correctly?

Matt this one is upside down. Something weird is going on in your phone. It shows correctly when you click on the full image, by itself, but there is something added to the file that specifies the orientation so that they do not display correctly in the BBS, Word, or any of my photo editing programs. I can rotate it and save it, but it always rotates back to the incorrect position because whatever is being added superceeds the changes I have made. It does this as a jpg, as a png, but not as a GIF.

Thanks to Rand for going back with me to measure the height (65.8') and spread (max: 93.5', avg: 93.5') of this majestic White Oak.
