Brian,

There is a fine stand of Taxodium at the NC Botanical gardens near the main gate; several over 90'. Also a tall VA pine if it is still there.

On second look (today) I believe I was in error on the Woodland Hills group. They are dawn redwoods, not cypress. Good call. You were also correct on the incense cader on WRVL highway.

Will

Brain, Wow you are Da man! It’s amazing that there are that many Dawns in your area. It's such a beautiful tree do you think people at or around the Biltmore Estate wanted some elsewhere after they found out the tree grew well in that region? Maybe Squirrels planted them? Maybe both! Hahahaha Larry

I've taken a straw poll with the local squirrels and most deny planting redwoods but they do approve of the redwoods. I'm amazed at just how many there are...and certainly more remain to be found. Many are in the 60-80' range, likely making them 25-35 years old (a 75 ' was 32 years) but most of the tall ones are likely 40+. None have the girth of the largest one at Biltmore (13' 3.5" cbh. I'd guess nearly 60 years).

Larry, I'm tackling a few of your specialty in the Charleston area next week. I'll see if the Angel put on any girth or width this year...and possibly get to Middleton Place.

Brian, Awesome! Both are fantastic Live Oaks. I'm opening a new post on them. Larry
