What is it??! My suspicion is some kind of egg. I could even see tiny dots in the center of some of them, as if something is growing.

Okay. Today I went to the mountains because I just needed to see them and I'm going stir-crazy recovering from knee surgery. So my wife took me up there. One of the places we stopped was Julian Price Park. I turned the needles over on a hemlock that had been treated against hwa and I saw this:
What is it??! My suspicion is some kind of egg. I could even see tiny dots in the center of some of them, as if something is growing.

It might be something like hemlock looper eggs?

Whatever it is, it's on a hemlock that's been treated with either Safari or Merit. Probably Safari because it looks like it was treated when it was almost dead. Now it's recovering, with lots of new, vigorous growth.
