Re: American Chestnuts in GA

I didn't even get a good look at the trees (plus my winter ID for chestnuts is poor at best)- I just collect the burs. I honestly thought the burs would turn out to be Chinkapin, but ACF says they are definitely C. dentata.

Re: Atlanta city Rucker 10 index - January 2011

I think you're absolutely right Larry, and not just based on size (which can be misleading as we all know). I've seen recently cut stumps and done fairly accurate ring counts on oaks, hickories, and tuliptrees in the area that are 130-190 years old... some pre-Civil War for sure. I plan to core some...

Picture ID was confirmed through the American Chestnut Foundation. The location was literally a stone's throw from the shelter atop...

Re: East Barkers Creek

184.5! Holy sha-moley!! Great work guys. This is a great find. I sure wish there were LIDAR data for Georgia. I just "found" a 164' TT in a great hidden cove in SW Atlanta, which kind of blew my mind. I felt the 160' barrier would not be broken in the city limits. Directly beside this tree is a 142'...
