Re: Middleton and Angel Oaks
Anybody interested in volume mapping the Angel Oak? I've seen the Middleton Oak since it dropped those big limbs and I'm almost certain the Angel Oak is much bigger. After reading the post about the giant Tuliptree in the Smokies, it makes me wonder again how short fat trees like live oaks will stac...

The Rucker 10 for Fernbank Forest in Atlanta, GA is now a hair over 136'. Not too shabby for an urban piedmont forest of only 60 acres.

Re: Welch Branch, GSMNP
Reports like this really make me believe that there are some MUCH taller Tulip trees in North Georgia than we currently have data on. Jess documented one to 169' and change. I recently found one in the city of Atlanta to be 165.9'. There have to be some super productive coves in the Chattahoochee Na...

Re: ENTS tulip-poplar paper
Neil, Bob, I fully agree about the North GA mtns. Jess has some wonderful data from his many years down here, and I feel there are more superlative trees to be found. I'll talk with Jess directly as he can guide me to some good spots. I feel if Tulips are in the mid-160's in metro-Atlanta, then ther...

Re: ENTS tulip-poplar paper
Bob & Neil, I now have 2 Tuliptrees confirmed over 160' in metro-Atlanta and a dozen or more in the 150's. The height record for the state (I believe) is a 169' specimen from a spot Jess visited in the North Georgia mountains. I can provide an updated list to Bob with the 5 tallest. Are you interest...
