Re: Big Morella???

Will- I've been thinking this species needs more attention as well. I see it planted around Atlanta a lot b/c it's hardy and sun loving. I also see it a lot when I visit home (about 1 hour north of Charleston, SC). I've seen them as big as the one you posted and probably bigger. It's often multi-tru...

Re: Bulloch Hall, Roswell, GA

Bigleaf is not a protected species. It's one of my favorite natives, but it's by no means rare, threatened or endangered. Are there any big one being threatened by the bulldozer? I'm happy to talk more- also happy to talk about Atlanta area trees in general. Hit me up on email at eli(at)treesatlanta...

Live Oaks in Savannah, GA?

Hi fellow NTS crew, I'm going to Savannah this weekend to run a marathon and hope to have some free time to do some tree measuring. Though I grew up only 2.5 hours north of Savannah, I've never actually been. I'm looking for leads on big trees or information on trees that have already been measured ...

Re: Hello from VA

Welcome Stephen! It's a wonderful group we have here and a mix of tree "professionals", artists, hikers, researchers, arborists, naturalist, and beyond. If you ever find yourself in North Georgia I can recommend some great "big tree" sites

Re: Tree Maximums - Genus of the Week: Halesia (Silverbell)

Jess- so I'm guessing the Silverbells around Atlanta are more likely H. tetraptera than H. carolina as I labeled them? What are the discerning features again? I don't see them a LOT in Atlanta, but in some of our nicer, older, more diverse forests they are fairly common.
