I used to be able to rotate pic's... not sure how to do that now. Any help/ideas is appreciated as those sideways shots drive me nuts.

Great NTS/American Forests training in Durango

I was fortunate enough to participate in a tremendously exciting and beneficial training/workshop with the American Forests champion tree cadre in late June in Durango, CO. I wanted to post a few pictures before I forget. Group shot at Hermosa Creek TH.JPG gnar factor.JPG Is this a western white pin...

Re: The Kevin Markworth Spruce

What a magnificent and vigorous looking tree! And such a great way to memorialize your brother. I, too, send condolences for your loss. I'm still in awe of the great work that NTS/Cadre is doing, and you and Will in particular blew me away! So glad y'all were able to go deep into Hermosa and get muc...

Re: New City and state Co-Champion Poplar

Rest assured that in all of my data sheets and official lists I list Latin nomenclature at a minimum, and usually add a common name as well. Funny how I was initially taught "tulip poplar", but Bob was taught "yellow poplar"... still ot...

Re: New City and state Co-Champion Poplar

Here are some pictures of the tree. It's a beauty for sure... not sure how to rotate the photo's... they show as vertical on my PC.

Re: New height record dogwood

Fantastic! I knew the dogwood I measured at Woodlands Garden in Decatur, GA would eventually be surpassed. This is a whopper! Also that basswood should be nominated to the state list- will easily beat out others that I've nominated in the past. Great finds Jess.

Re: The big move to California, the trees I leave behind :(

Best of luck to you John! California is where I first fell in love with plants... wasn't until I spent time exploring old growth in the Piedmont region of Georgia that I fell in love with trees specifically (Tulip poplar is my first "tree love" too). You're going to have so much fun exploring out we...

Re: S. Peachtree Creek tributary, Atlanta, GA

I don't think I ever updated the group, but this state champ American Beech fell about 2 years ago. The bank was undercut with erosion and the tree fell across the creek. Just went back yesterday to check on some trees and was able to see the giant fallen trunk. Quite a canopy gap left in it's wake....
