Re: Cercis (continued)
For what it's worth, I've measured Cercis canadensis to 60' in Fernbank Forest here in Atlanta, GA. Such a lovely species. I suspect there's some outliers in the 70'+ range... may Jess or Will have found them!

Re: Tree Maximums - Genus of the Week: Cercis (Redbud)
It doesn't quite meet the bar set by the Boatwright redbud, but yesterday I documented a 1'7" x 55.5' Cercis canadensis in Fernbank Forest. They're all in full bloom right now so they stand out nicely. Also documented one at 2'1/2" x 51.8' redbud further up the hill. I love these "tiny giants". So f...

Re: Atlanta, GA Rucker Index reaches 143.1'
Another update! Atlanta RHI 10 pushes past 145 to 145.2'! I still want to remeasure a few of these, but yesterday I found new high point on Sweetgum (now 147') and Shumard oak (now 144.3'). Pretty exciting stuff!

I guess if we were only looking at metro-areas, I think Atlanta would be at or near the top nationwide (though Memphis is up there too, right Jess?)

The RHI10 for Atlanta (inside I-285 perimeter) is now 144.3'. That's a pretty stout number!

Re: Fernbank Forest, GA - Rucker 10 Index reaches 136'
Bob, I'm not sure off hand which GA site has the highest RHI... would have to look through some old data sheets. I know the mountainous sites that Jess has spent much time in have some taller trees, but not sure how deep the tall trees go.... sure, there's super tall white pines up there, but not su...

I think reviving the species of the week is a great idea. I'm a huge fan. You were able to bring many tree measurers together to compile species specific data in one place with a great format. I think it brought out the inner competitor in all of us too- in a good way. Keep it rollin'!
