John,

No. I measured a 170.1' tulip in Maryland last year. Here is a photo of the tree with my brother Rob near its base. The tree has a CBH of 13.6'.

Re: Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area, Md.

George, As with the others, I am very impressed with the oaks you are measuring (actually everything). And the Rucker is wild! Your oak discoveries make me believe that we should continue in the direction of each of us developing a separate database for a species of our choice. We all would feed th...

Re: Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area, Md.

George, Incredible site, as the littering of height records and 142' Rucker Index make clear. The oaks seem to really take the cake though. Not many upland sites anywhere with three oak species over 140'. Jess d Jess, This is a former DuPont family site which was the largest privately owned land ho...

Re: Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area, Md.

Holy crap! That's one hell of a site. There's some pretty serious age but still the black oaks and red oaks are crazy. I just don't see many 130' black oaks at all and more than one at a site is quite extraordinary. Maryland may be the epicenter of black oaks. The red oaks in the 140's in great num...

The Kennett Beech

NTS, In August of 2015 my brother Rob and I had some time to visit Anson B Nixon park just north of Kennett Square, Pa. The park is comprised of 120 acres. I've been wanting to see the parks claimed 250-300 year old beech trees for several years now and I finally had the opportunity to investigate. ...

Re: Bailey Arboretum, Nassau County

NTS, Delaware has a 160' Metasequoia glyptostroboides located at the bottom of a somewhat forested slope at the entrance to the Mt Cuba Center. I took a crude measuremet, straight- up laser shot from the road and got a hit of 55yds. At that time, late fall of 2014, the tree was listed at 161'. I est...

Re: New York City RHI

Erik, I'm impressed with your NTS work ethic. You've taken NYC by storm!!! My brother has lived in Manhatten for years and has pleaded with me for some time to come and measure the trees he has seen in the city, especially Inwood Park. In July of 2015 I finally made the trip with intensions to measu...

Re: Howland's Island

Erik, My brother and I were in Inwood Park this past July. I didn't do any serious measuring. There is some great older growth tulips and red oak along some large outcrops. One tulip measured over 16' and is likely around 130'. The tops are beat up pretty well. On the other side of the trail opposit...
