eliahd24 wrote:Is this site in PA? Holy crap those are some magnificent trees. Exceptional girth and height for such high latitude. Make sure these are included in Neil's Liriodendron study. Great work!
The site is in northern Delaware about 1 mile south of the Pennsylvania border.

James,

US Route 202 and Interstate 95 are only minutes from the park.

Re: Brandywine Creek State Park's Tulip Poplars

George, You are a one man measuring machine. You do us proud. You also have filled in a large gap in our tree numbers for that region. I'll add the new numbers to the article several of us are writing on the tuliptree for the Bulletin. Your data is highly significant, and likely shows that the Dela...

Very impressive post. I stopped at that park briefly many years ago on a trip back from Florida, but I had no idea what treasures there were deeper within the park.
Bart,

There are all kinds of treasures once you get off the beaten path. No matter where you are.

Re: Brandywine Creek State Park

George, Stellar job! Looking at the aerials last summer I definitely had my eye on that area, and then after our trip to Winterthur I was even more encouraged. Are there any more similar areas left in DE? I wonder what lurkes unnoticed in some of the protected coves even on smaller sites. Excellent...

Steve,

I'm finding that the tall/large tree sites are between Philadelphia PA and Wilmington DE. There is still lots to discover.

James Parton wrote:Absolutely awesome! It would take me days to measure that many trees!
James,

It did. I spent a total of five, eight hour days measuring trees and one day showing my brother and getting some coordinates of the park. I had a weeks worth of vacation time to use or lose.

Re: Brandywine Creek State Park

George, Congratulations! You hit the ball not only out of the park, but out of the stadium with this report. I'm darn near speechless. It is going to take me some time to absorb the significance of this posting. You do realize that you are the proud owner of the two top Rucker Index sites in the No...
