Re: one last visit to the great oak

We have a post about this tree on the TCI Facebook page which went sort-of viral; almost 16,000 people have seen it. Fitting tribute.

Re: What kind of red oak?

For those not familiar with it, the University of Georgia has a website called ForestryImages.org which has a searchable database of thousands of pictures of all the different features of individual trees. I used it extensively for the "Common Trees of Atlanta" section of my new TreeInspection.com w...

"
Drop-dead gorgeous trees! The white oaks and American elms steal the show. I'd give somebody's right arm to have trees like these along our streets today.
"

Open Positions at American Forests

NTS: Yesterday I had a conversation with my friend Lea Sloan, VP for Communications at American Forests. She told me that they have two job openings for which they are actively recruiting: Manager of Urban Forest Programs (http://www.americanforests.org/employment/manager-of-urban-forest-programs), ...

Re: Data Wanted

Hi Duncan,
Attached is last year's Atlanta Champion Tree list which Eli Dickerson sent me. He may have it in a different format and updated (there is a new city champion tulip tree, for example).

Re: The Big Burn, a good read.

It's been a while since Marc recommended this book, The Big Burn , so some people may not have seen the original post about it. I'm most of the way through it, pretty much unable to put it down. My husband brought it home on loan from the most recent Tree Climbers Rendezvous in Seattle. This is a fa...
