Re: The Galehouse Tuliptree
I had the privilege to visit the Galehouse Tree recently and measured it from two different vantage points at 167' and 172' for an average height of 169.5' which is very close to the official height. Personally I think its closer to 172 because I had a much better view of the top from a high locatio...

Re: White Pine - Zaleski
I stopped by this location once again after visiting Lake Hope to verify a solitary 160 hit I got on a tree last year. Unfortunately I couldn't locate said tree and have no idea where it might be. So my claim of a 160' pine is a bit premature and should be discarded for now. However, I did find the ...

Lake Hope State Park
I took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and went on a road trip down south to Zaleski State Forest to visit it's state park and investigate some tall tree Lidar hits. I first visited a white pine plantation and measured a tree that I estimate to be approx.155' (based on the average of six ...

Re: Gone Wild Over Black Birches
No, thank you Bob! I would have overlooked this species if I wasn't dispatched on this quest for the "holy grail". I've come to appreciate this forest a lot more than I might have otherwise thanks to you. Not known as a tall tree site until now, at least for this species. Unlike other nearby locatio...

Re: Gone Wild Over Black Birches
South Chagrin Reservation (Cleveland Metro Parks) has I nice collection of black birches right here in northeast Ohio. Here's what I got so far: 96ft 97ft 92ft 88ft 91ft x 4ft6.5in 95ft x 6ft3.5in 103ft There are many more that I waymarked but didn't measure. Like a contortionist I got all bent out ...

Re: Fort Hill Day Trip - 11/30/14
Matt, Is that 58' spread average or maximum for the hickory? I want to compare the point total with the ones listed on ODNR. It lists a Red at 260pts and a pignut at 230pts. There's one in North Chagrin that's either a pignut or red that I need to measure the crown spread of to see how it compares. ...

Re: North Chagrin Reservation: Cumulative Forest Data
http://www.ents-bbs.org/download/file.php?id=20328&mode=view I came across a nice forest grown Quercus bicolor early this morning before the sweltering heat chased me inside. I don't think this species has been documented at this site before. I got a height of at least 117' (one of many tops) with ...

Re: Hampton Hills, CVNP, 160.8' Tuliptree
I think the 150ft tulip that I measured was the 147' tree instead of the 150ft tree mentioned in the OP. It's the largest tree in the grove with the biggest girth. I must have missed the other two 150 trees. In any case there appears to be a total of five 150plus trees in this very small but impress...

Re: tall tree grove, CV
Any time Eric. I would be happy to cross paths with you in a park. I'm interested in the Lake Erie watershed as well and will always be a part of it. I think you'll have a big kick with Lidar. I never would have found this grove without it. The old lidar data for this particular tree I think is arou...
