Re: Giant Ponderosa found in Stanislaus National Forest

Interesting. I always thought sugar pine was the biggest pine species. This one is impressive.

Re: Blue Gum Eucalyptus

I forgot to add my own height to the laser measurement. I am over 6 feet tall so it's not 147 feet tall, it's 153.

Re: Blue Gum Eucalyptus

I found the 49 foot tree online. It's clearly a multi-stem. http://www.americanforests.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Bluegum-Eucalyptus.png If people used native tree society rules none of these trees would count. To give you an idea how huge these trees are, there is a man in this picture. Look ca...

Re: Blue Gum Eucalyptus

I never saw any stats on this tree. To most people out there, it's just a typical blue gum. These people are spoiled by redwoods and sequoias and don't care about a dinky little 35-foot tree. The stats on Clint Eastwoods tree (yes, THE Clint Eastwood) are online. I hate to say, Clint's tree and mine...

Re: Blue Gum Eucalyptus

I measured it yesterday. It was 35 feet 0 inches in circumference and 147 feet tall (49 yards) measured by pointing directly up at the top using my Nikon 440. Have pictures and video which I'll upload when I get back. Not a champion. Clint Eastwood's former champ was 465 inches (38 feet 9 inches) an...

Re: Blue Gum Eucalyptus

I was thinking of going to California and measuring it. When do you plan to be around northern CA? I was thinking of going this week. Maybe we can meet there and measure it together. Use my email dualkubota@yahoo

Re: NY State DEC's Big Tree Program non-existant

National level won't talk to you until you get the state level out of the way.

My elm is probably state champion but I'll never get on the list. My hornbeam has obviously been US champion for 40 years but has been bureaucratically challenged for the last 10 years.

Re: Arborvitea

You're right. Since I've been looking, right down the street I found one 65 inches around (the stem on the left is 65, the other one is 57) and 63 feet tall, 24 foot crown.

Must be a New York thing. No real big tree program here.
