Re: a magnificent menziezii
Don't know if you received my recent e-mail, but my brother and I are getting excited about a re-visit to the Quinault and Hoh R. area this May 18-23. Will be hoping to find the Willaby Cr. Cedar and Tichipawa, if conditions allow our 74-yr. old (and tired) bodies to bushwhack close to them! We love...

Re: a magnificent menziezii
Darryl and I love all the posts about the giant Douglas firs! We've also found some huge ones over the years, and we look forward to returning to the SW and W slopes of the Olympics this spring (2017)!

Re: Oregons largest tree?
On April 3, 2016, my brother and I found relatively large redwood in the headwaters of Moser Creek off the Oregon Redwoods Trail on Peavine Ridge near Brookings, way above the /Winchuck R. I originally reported the diameter as a little under 14 feet. But my measurement was wrong--it's diameter is ac...

Re: Oregons largest tree?
Wow, this is surprising news for us big-tree nuts! Any response from the 'Ascending the Giants' folks? I imagine they would like to climb and measure it. The last we knew, the western redcedar near Arcadia Beach was Oregon's largest tree (810 pts., nearly 17 ft. in dam., but only 152 ft. tall). Darr...

Re: Oregons largest tree?
A redwood tree has been discovered in Oregon that quickly jumps to the top largest tree known in Oregon! The tree is 18.5' DBH, 298' tall (tallest known redwood in Oregon), and approximately 17000 cubic feet! The discovery of this tree makes Oregon a new large-redwood frontier. John Montague, Steve...

Re: Alaska's Big Tree List!
Re: Alaska's largest Sitka spruce Don, I contacted you last year about another giant Sitka spruce in the South Baranof Wilderness of Tongass N.F. on Baranof Island. I saw (and copied) this image of the tree posted in 2014 on the Wilderness50th.org Facebook site. Do you know if it's still standing an...

Mr. Darvel Lloyd
Hi, I'm Darvel Lloyd, age 72 (retired) from Portland, OR, and am a hopeless big (and old) tree nut! I suppose my twin brother (Darryl) and I first developed a passion for hiking in ancient forests as kids, when our forester father took us on timber cruises and showed us the world's largest Douglas f...
