Re: Undiscovered Old-Growth near Woodward PA??

Got it, Bee', That clears things up a bit. Looks like next time I'm in the State College area I'll do a drive through on Pine Creek Hollow Road, and see if anything tantalizes me out of the car. Exploring Hosterman, Barner, and Whetstone gaps via Google Earth shows to me a lot of dead conifers. Look...

Re: Undiscovered Old-Growth near Woodward PA??

Folks, I haven't been to this area, but appears I've been nearby: Bear Run N.A., Joyce Kilmer N.A., Snyders-Middleswarth/Tall Timbers N.A., Detweiler Run N.A., Bear Meadows N.A. In all those travels I haven't seen anything from a distance on those ridges which would make me want to explore the area ...

Re: Who wants to check out a big Chestnut Tree?

Hi, George! Great to hear from you. Still waiting to hear back from Ed on contact info. Even when I get it, it probably won't be until late October before I'll have time to check it out. Currently in our busy summer programming season, plus... the powers that be have decided its also the best time o...

Ed,

Could you please pass on Darlene's e-mail/contact information to me? I'd like to try and get down there to investigate.

Many thanks!

Re: Zoar Valley Update

Great job, Elijah!!! So glad to see all the measurements in one place. There's SO MANY tall tree records there, and so many good sites that it's hard to keep them all straight. Many trees are impressive and off the charts for this for north. I haven't reported on it yet, but the only tree I have in ...

Re: Letchworth State Park

Yes! Hemlocks in the 130's here are a VERY good sign of what yet might be out there. On my short trip there several years ago, I only had time to briefly explore in several places on top of the gorge and easy access/heavy public use trails to the bottom. I was itching to get off trail down in the bo...
