There probably is a good deal of potential, it's one of the few areas of temperate rainforest in the world. The prevailing weather patterns off of the Black Sea into the mountains creates a great deal of precipitation.
Vladimir Dinets had written Christopher Earle about some big Caucasian firs in a park in Russia near the border with Georgia that were huge. There's also an adjacent section of NE Turkey with similar forests.
